What Customers Say About Siemens S455 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone System with Ansering Machine:

Totally dead, no tech support helped, and the warranty process is so tedious and expensive I'm just buying new phones because I don't want another set of these anyway. I agree with all the low reviews. Also as a warning I thought I liked them well enough in the beginning to overlook the annoyances - don't be fooled with how nice they look. I highly DON"T recommend this phone. Haven't liked this phone since I first bought it but lived with the mushy keys, difficult set up, tedious phone book entry, no way to turn the ringer off, poor range. but after less than a year they are in the garbage.

I have no idea what the "large LCD" contributes to the phone's value as the software surely wasn't written for it.I chose the system based on tech comparisons and reviews. The system approach to multi-phone management could not possibly be so screwed up by accident. You have been warned on this one though. The science behind this phenomenon is difficult to grasp.3.A common accessible directory of phone numbers is a basic need for a whole house system.

Siemens, however has not a clue in what a consumer product should be.1.The problems of Siemens peculiar software cannot be overcome by experience. I'm embarrassed and ashamed.Buy what you want. We needed to replace our old Sony whole house 5.8g system. Based on reviews we bought the Siemens system. There are too many defugalties to list. Every unit displays a different time 24 hours after a system reset.

Now my wife gives me the stink eye at least once a week that this is the last phone she'll ever listen to me about again. This system mixes up unit specific directories with the root directory with a seeming random erasure of one for another when the 'instructions' are microscopically followed. The directory input could not possibly be made more difficult than the manner that Siemens has chosen.4.Individual unit ID (like living room, kitchen, bedroom #1, etc) for returning phone to charging requires keypad typing to get to the remote ID. You have to dig it out when you have 3 phones that have coagulated in one room to return.5. I cannot imagine the difficulties a less tech experienced person must be having. It doesn't just show you where it belongs on the 'big LCD'. DECT 6.0 is clearly the superior technology for audio and range.

Then you get to reinput stuff again. Not so. It absolutely makes no sense for this software savvy user. 2.One might assume Siemens would have perfected digital time keeping after 25 years.

2. But Siemens customer service (even in Germany) couldn't point that out despite my informing them that i left the local area code fields blank and even set to '000' in trying to resolve the issue. This phone is truly advanced than the other phones I am aware of in the market. It took me a while to figure out that I need to enter my local area codes in the menu provided (I feel foolish when i think back about it). Upto 32 digits can be stored for a number - generally enough to store a calling card number, the access code and the contact's number together 5. Slow response - especially takes a while to register key presses while in a call. Don't have any problems with reception within and outside the house3.

What is surprising, though, that there is no cordless phone as feature rich as even an entry level cellphone. This is overall, an excellent phone. If needed be, I would buy again. What I liked -1. Speed dial for 8 contacts, additionally, 1 reserved for dialling your service provider's voice mailI didn't like - 1.

Very good battery life and the fact it uses readily available AAA rechargeable batteries10. The fact that if you see an unrecognised number(telemarketer)., you can divert the call right away to the answering machine - don't have to listen to more rings than you want to.9. Has only 5 levels of volume, should have more, as another reviewer noted3. And those cellphones are cheaper than most of these 'high end' cordless phones.

I had a problem that the phone would prefix a '1' to any of the local numbers that I dialled from the received calls list. You can dial in tandem - call a number, then dial any of the numbers in the directory after that (again useful for calling cards etc).6. Poor skill level of customer service agents. Excellent call quality - both for you and the person at the other end.

Given today's level of customer service, you have to do that a lot.2. If you don't have a pen/paper handy, you can record the call to recall any information later8. 150 names directory4. It stores 10 of the last dialled numbers7.

I love the option of sending a call straight to the answering machine if I don't want to answer, instead of waiting for the machine to pick up. However, I figured out this was a problem with the phone outlet in my kitchen and not the phone itself. I love the look and feel of it, the screen is very nice and the menus are easy to navigate, similar to a cell phone.

To me, that fact alone is worth paying a higher price. I plugged it into a different outlet and now it works perfectly.Overall this is one of the best phones you can buy. I did have a problem with the caller ID not working when I first plugged in the phone.

This is an excellent phone. I also love the fact that the phone is actually made in Germany by decently paid EU workers, and not in some factory in China. I highly recommend it.

The quality of the speakers on both the handset and the base is great. The "hold" music is a little odd (a bad electronic rendition of the first movement of Mozart Symphony #40), but it can be easily disabled through the settings menu.

Finally, read over their explanation of why it takes up to 30 days to credit your account. Just like you would have to take a defective or buyers remorse return item back to the brick and mortar store you purchased it from or send it back to the manufacturer for warranty service". They use the internet to sell product, yet when it comes time to return defective product they play by the rules of what they refer to as a "brick and mortar store". Received defective product. Its so convoluted that it really goes out of its way to insult ones intellegence. Vendor gave me RMA number and stated that I needed to pay for return (even though it was defective). Called Siemens and they verified defect and asked that I return it to vendor - Antonline. There response was "You are responsible for return shipping.
